Because the number of Web servers is growing so fast, that normal user surfing on the Web using fulltext search engines gets always such a huge number of page links, that he/she is not able even to read the links the less visit all the Web sites.
What is even worse, when he finally has to decide which pages to look at, from the links found by search engines is not possible to judge about the referred Web sites recency nor the quality of their content. Up to know we couldn't do to much ... only search and try ... this costs a lot of patience and sometimes also money... and this is where there are coming FEEDs to help us!

Ok, so what are this Feeds, XML and RSS about ... ?

Not a big deal. Simply is possible to say, that like almost every book has a table of contents (TOC) and it is for a long time considered to be normal thing, on Internet it is the absolute news and it is called Feeds or RSS. To have things little bit more complicated, the mentioned TOC is not created in ordinary text form nor in classical HTML, but in format called XML. That is also why on some servers we can find a button or link to RSS, on the others rather XML and on some Web pages are even both names.

The most important thing for us is,that under different labels and names we can finally find the same: The file on Web server in standardized (XML) format in which, whenever we download it, we can always find the informations about, what is new on this Web server. Because these files are not displayed as Web pages by Web Browsers, but unusually they are downloaded and processed by specialized software tools "feeded" by these informations (so called Feed or RSS readers) these files are called Feeds.

Table of Contents? Hmm ... and where is the magic ... ?

The point is, that the biggest sources of news and actual informations were able to agree that for such a TOC files they will use the same and thus almost standardized XML format.
As soon as this step is completed, it opens the huge space for upcoming automatized tools, which can read these Feeds instead of forcing Internet users to look at all servers for the most recent and interesting informations. Those tools already exist and they are most often called Feed or RSS readers. More advanced Feed Readers can not only read the informations but also filter, search and sort their content, so their users can always have ready the complete overview of Internet news they are interested in.
On the other side, all those millions of informations arising on the Internet every day which we are not interesting in, can be by Feed Readers easily omitted.

So, when we summarize it, if not magic, at least the significant
step forward is in two major points:

1. After already aged WWW and even older e-mail, there are coming up the new technologies, which allow to all who offer the informations, ... including to commercial subjects with their commercials .... to publish them without any artificial limitations, and to those who are looking for informations, choose which informations are they most interested in and those watch continuously. Not so much work and the SPAM bugaboo is close to its definitive dead
2. Users can finally start to watch the Web not only according the "good" or "bad" addresses, but according the recency and quality of informations

So, how it works ... ?

A/ On your Web server, in addition to HTML pages which are already there, you will add the file in standardized XML (RSS) format, in which you may every day put all news and on which of your web pages they can be found.
